Fakta Selasa: 775 Juta Orang di Dunia Buta Huruf!

FAKTA SELASA:

  • Di antara negara-negara anggota Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), seperempat dari jumlah murid yang suka membaca mendapatkan nilai hasil tes kemampuan lebih tinggi daripada yang tidak suka membaca.
  • Di tahun 2006, UNESCO mencatat bahwa ada 132 juta orang muda dewasa yang tidak bisa berkomunikasi dengan bahasa tulisan. 
  • Menurut data UNESCO Institute for Statistics, ada sekitar 775 juta orang dewasa yang buta huruf di dunia, dan 64% dari jumlah tersebut adalah wanita.
  • Dari tahun 2001 sampai 2006, 8 negara melaporkan penurunan angka buta huruf, sedangkan 6 negara justru kebalikannya.  (National Center for Education Statistics)

WHAT’S HAPPENING AROUND THE GLOBE:

  • Across Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries, the quarter of students who enjoy reading most, score one-and-a-half proficiency levels higher in reading than the quarter of students who enjoy reading the least.   • In 2006, UNESCO reported that there are still 132 million young people worldwide that are unable to communicate in a written language. (UNESCO)
  • According to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, there is an estimated 774 million illiterate adults in the world, in which 64% are women. (UNESCO Institute for Statistics)
  • From 2001 to 2006, 8 countries have recorded an increase in their average reading literacy scores, 6 reported decreases. And the U.S. and other remaining countries reported no change. (National Center for Education Statistics)
